Japanese Whisky: Premium Omakase

Japanese Whisky Insider's Omakase: The Collector's Vault

Omakase Course Details

At least 12 premium drams over 2 hours, centrally located at an infamous bar in Tokyo. Taste history from legendary distillers, a rare 'once-in-a-lifetime' dram from my vault, plus taste the future of modern Japanese craft.  The price per pour at your typical Tokyo bar would cost at least $289 (¥45,000) in Japan, but no single bar in Tokyo can offer this incredible selection. Here's what you can expect for this ¥28,000 Omakase: Welcome drink Settle in with a traditional Japanese highball. We'll discuss what goes into 100% real and authentic whisky from Japan and how to taste it. The Pioneers: A Taste of History Taste foundational whiskies from the legendary producers like Suntory and Nikka. Selections may include drams from the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s from: Hakushu, Yamazaki, Yoichi, Miyagikyo, Nishinomiya grain distillery, and more... The "Lost" Generation Discover "ghost" distilleries & taste old, rare whiskies from (or inspired by) this lost era. Selections may include ghost drams from: Karuizawa, Hanyu, Kawasaki Grain, Kirin, Mars, and more... A Collector's Dram Taste a super-premium, long-aged bottle you can't find in bars. A true "once-in-a-lifetime" collector's pour. Selections may include: long lost ghost malts or "famous firsts" from Suntory, Nikka, Kirin, and Mars. The Modern Whisky Boom Taste a flight from Ichiro's Malt and more from the new wave of craft distilleries. Selections may include: Ichiro's Malt Chichibu, Kanosuke or Hioki, Mars Tsunuki or Komagatake, Saburomaru, Akkeshi, and more... What Makes It "Japanese"? Learn what defines the style. Explore unique cask finishes and expressions like Mizunara oak, how climate and terroir matter, and the philosophy behind the craft. Selections may include: Eigashima White Oak, Asaka Yamazakura, Shindo, and more... The Art of Authenticity Master authenticity. Compare images of "fake" Japanese whisky against real Japanese single malts. While we discuss how the legal landscape of what is considered "Japanese" has changed since 2024, we'll look at the third wave of Japanese distilleries. Selections may include: Ikawa, Kuju, Ontake, and more... Closing Gifts & Kanpai! Receive my handmade maps, guides & local tips. We'll end with a final Q&A and a "Kanpai!" (Cheers!) >>> Don't forget about the bonus drams that span old and rare to modern malts.
